Top 10 Memories From 2017…

January 4, 2018
1. Going on a cruise to the Caribbean!
Every year we go on a big vacation. This year we decided to take a cruise to the Western Caribbean. Went went in January of 2017, and it couldn’t have been better timing. I love taking trips to warm places when we are in the middle of winter here in Utah. Our cruise went through Mahogany Bay, Belize and Cozumel. We had so many fun adventures on these islands! Including cave tubing in Belize which was probably our favorite part of the trip. I wrote blog posts on all three of our destinations so I will link them accordingly. {Mahogany Bay, Belize, Cozumel}

2. I hit 10,000!

As a Fashion Blogger I am constantly trying to create new content, new blog posts and grow my audience. This year was a huge year of learning and growing. I hit my first big milestone with my followers and surpassed 10,000! I know when compared to a lot of very successful and big time bloggers it is small in comparison, but it was a huge milestone for me! I had set a goal that I wanted to reach 10,000 and I made it! And I am still growing! There is nothing more satisfying than setting goals for yourself and accomplishing them. So thank you for being a part of my journey and cheering me on all year! I can’t wait to share 2018 with you all as well! I owe everything to my readers. Without you I wouldn’t be where I am today. All of you make this blog possible.

3. We went to Las Vegas to see The Backstreet Boys!

You may laugh a little bit at my #3. But this was all my teenage girl dreams come true! When I was in 6th grade I got tickets for my birthday to see The Backstreet Boys. This was on their ‘Black & Blue’ tour, for all you ladies (or gents) who know what I’m talking about. Since I have gotten older I promised myself that if The Backstreet Boys ever did another show again, I would do anything to go. So Colin surprised me with tickets in March and we ended up going in April! It was an amazing show and it was everything I had hoped it would be. While we were in Vegas we got to visit The Neon Museum and The Seven Magic Mountains, which was on my bucket list! Both phenomenal places.

4. I got hair extensions!

This was a big deal for me this year. I had thought about it long and hard, and finally decided to take the jump in May of 2017. I had a lot of hair problems and thinning leading up to May. I decided to turn to extensions for my answer. I had done a lot of research and went with Tape-In extensions. They are a huge commitment and a lot of upkeep, but I have loved every minute of it! It has been a huge game changer and confidence booster for me. I am planning on doing a separate post all about hair extensions and the questions I get; so stayed tuned. But in the mean time, I use Honey Hair Extensions and you can find them here.

5. I Partnered with DownEast for a DIY wall hanging & was featured in DownEast stores!
This was such an amazing project to be a part of this year. I did a DIY dip dyed wall hanging tutorial as part of a collaboration with DownEast. It was such a hit with my readers and all across Pinterest. My project and information was featured in DownEast stores and that was huge to me! It was crazy to walk into DownEast and see my name and info next to the DIY project.
6. I got both of my Daith’s pierced & it honestly saved my life!
Almost 2 years ago I started getting migraines. Before then, I had the occasional headache, but never migraine. It got so bad that I had a migraine for almost a week straight. It got to the point that I started having vertigo attacks and couldn’t do anything but lay in a dark room and not move. I was constantly popping Excedrine, and soon enough that didn’t work anymore. So I had migraines almost every day with constant nausea.
About a year ago I had heard of the magical “daith piercing.” It is a part of the ear that relieves pressure and can also relieve headaches and migraines. I had heard so many people benefit from having this piercing, that I decided to give it a try. Although it isn’t scientifically proven to be for migraines or headaches (and it doesn’t work on everyone), I was willing to try anything at this point.
I’ll be honest, it hurt. The right side more than the left. (I will go into further detail in a future blog post. I have had so many questions and have had the piercings long enough that I feel comfortable to do a blog post.) But after the initial healing my migraines went away! It was like magic. I no longer had nausea and if I got a headache it went away with Tylenol or Advil. Which never happened in the past. I will admit I have had maybe 2-3 migraines since July 2017, when I got my piercings, but I will take the occasional migraine over every day.
If you ask me if I recommend the piercing, heck yes! I am a firm believer in it, and if it doesn’t work you can always take it out.

7. I turned 24!

This will always be a big event for me! I love birthdays and have always grown up celebrating birthdays and making a big deal out of them. So I will always be excited to celebrate my age! I did a fun photo shoot with confetti to celebrate, and it was probably one of my favorite photo shoots of the year. There is something so fun about a sequin dress and confetti!

8. I Was a part of the Kneaders ‘Hope Fights Childhood Cancer’ Campaign!

I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of the Kneaders ‘Hope Fights Childhood Cancer’ Campaign that took place in September. It was one of my biggest campaigns to date and I was so honored to be part of such an amazing cause. There were so many touching stories and I met so many amazing people. It was definitely life changing. Kneaders raises money every year to help fund cancer research. To read more about this amazing cause and how you can help this year, read my post all about the 2017 campaign.

9. Went to my very first fashion show at City Creek!

Being a fashion blogger I have always wanted to go to a fashion show! I love all things fashion and it has always been my dream to attend shows. This summer I was approached by City Creek to attend a fall fashion show at the City Creek mall in Salt Lake City. I sat in the front row, with a chair that had my name on it, and was able to watch all the pieces that were coming to stores and were going to be trending that fall. It was such a fun experience and I loved every minute! It felt like the royal treatment and it’s a goal to attend many more shows in the future! This is the outfit I wore to the show!

10. I opened up about my mental health & quit my job!

This was probably the biggest event for me this past year. I opened up about my struggle with depression, and that being aware about your own mental health is not a bad thing. It is so important and important to take care of yourself. If you want to read more about my experience you can find that post here.

In the process of figuring out what was best for myself I also quit my job, partially, and will only be working 2 days a week. Full time has become a little too much and I need to take a step back to work on myself. I am also excited to be working on my blog a few days a week in the mean time. It was another contributing factor that lead to me wanting to quit my job. You can read more about that in my latest post here.

bonus: I feel like this was such a big year for me as a person, and me as a blogger. I feel like I really grew into my brand and my style. I also feel like I have come to know myself a lot better, and have come to terms with the fact that it is okay to need help.

I accomplished a lot this year and hit a lot of my goals! It was so fun seeing ‘A Pretty Penny’ grow and become something more than I could have imagined this year! I have so many big plans for myself and my blog, and I can’t wait to make them come to life this next year!

Thank you so much for all being a part of my 2017 and this blog. I am so excited for what 2018 has to hold and I can’t wait to share it all with you!

xo,
Sara

We were trying very hard not to connect with people 😉 so we played a few games of pickle ball, climbed up Dixie rock, and spent time in some slightly-warmer-than-salt-lake-city-weather. We’ve had a great start to 2021 & I love that journey for us.
My top 9 of #2020! What👏🏻a👏🏻year👏🏻 Even through the unexpected quarantine, COVID, & working from home, I am so so grateful for this past year. While the world has been going through such uncertain times, I’m so grateful I’ve been able to focus on my whole world at home. Colin & I have both been able to work from home since March. We have got to spend everyday together & I’ve got to spend everyday at home with Rowan. It has been an absolute dream watching her grow up 🙌🏻 all year I have been wishing this year would be over. Now I can’t believe today is the last day of 2020. This year has been the absolute fastest and slowest year of my life. I am excited to see what 2021 holds & all the adventures it’ll bring to our little family. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year 🎉 #happynewyear #littlemissrowanand

✈️SAVE MONEY TRAVELING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON✈️

Need a weekend adventure or staycation? We sure did! This past weekend we were in need of some serious time out and about! We used @shareavail to book an SUV to take us to some of our favorite places around Salt Lake City and it ended up being the perfect local “getaway”.

Avail is a car sharing service (like Airbnb for cars). You can book through their app (available on iOS) or online. We booked through the app, got a suburban (say hello to the newest soccer mom😉), and saved so much money compared to a traditional rental! It also saves you so much time! Instead of waiting in line to rent a car, you reserve one through the app, shuttle/drive to the Avail parking lot, and they hand you your keys! NO LINES & no upsells! They also use a 12-step cleaning process to clean each vehicle before & after each use, so you can feel safe to borrow any vehicle from Avail!

Avail is not only a great way to save money while traveling, but did you know you can also 💚MAKE MONEY💚 through Avail while you travel to visit your loved ones during the holidays or if your car is just sitting at home??

All you have to do is sign up through Avail to have your car borrowed while you are gone (or if it's just collecting dust outside your home)!
🔹Check the Avail website to see if your car qualifies to be borrowed
🔹Park your car at the Avail airport lot
🔹Get free airport parking while you are gone
🔹Free car cleaning
🔹If your car is borrowed, you can make up to $25 a day!

Crazy right?! So whether your car is sitting idle, you are visiting from out of town, spending the day exploring your city, or taking a staycation, @shareavail is the perfect way to experiencing all your adventures this year! Use the code "APRETTYPENNYGIRL" to get $50 off your first booking, now until Dec. 31st. Now tell me, are you going anywhere fun this holiday season?⬇️⬇️

Shopping during the holidays can be so stressful! Shopping during the holidays can be so stressful! I usually end up buying a bunch of Christmas gifts & end up spending wayyyy more than I plan to 🙈 but, I have been using @afterpayusa to buy now & pay later to make my holiday shopping stress-free. So many of my favorite retailers use @afterpayusa, like @oldnavy! (Everything is 50% off right now! RUN🏃🏼‍♀️)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
@afterpayusa is the perfect way to shop now & pay later. It splits your total into 4 payments. Your first payment is due at checkout, & every payment after that is due every 2 weeks. See my stories to see what retailers are using AfterPay so you can have stress-free holiday shopping too! #sponsored #AfterpaytheHolidays #afterpayambassador
