Happy Birthday to my Colin And! I am so very blessed to have this man in my life. He is the best part about me and he makes me my best self. He is my biggest supporter and he absolutely spoils me. For all of those reasons I am so excited to celebrate this handsome guy today!
Since it is his birthday I wanted to tell you all how I met this amazing man.
I was in my second year of college at Utah State University. I had sent off a missionary 6 months prior and I had some great plans coming up. The app ‘Tinder’ had just came out and my friend told me about it and convinced me to sign up. We mostly used it for talking to cute boys and looking at all the crazies, because let’s be honest, there were some weird people on there.
While I was using this app I was also planning things out in my life. I started talking to this cute boy name Colin and I didn’t really think anything of it at first.
Side story: My Tinder was linked to my FB, and when I first signed up for FB years prior I put something about pickles in my bio. I forgot it was even there, but when my Tinder was linked to it, it had that bio. So the first thing Colin ever said to me was, “Hey! I like pickles too!” So smooth…
It was April, and General Conference was on. The age got changed for missionaries. Boys could now go at 18 and girls could go at 19. I was 19 and I seriously considered going. I prayed and fasted about it and knew it wasn’t what I needed to do. (to learn more about those things visit: lds.org)
Then I decided to do a Disney internship. One of my friends had done one and it seemed like a lot of fun! I was excited to be away for the fall semester and add this to my resume. I went through the whole interview process, got accepted and was ready to pay for my housing.
During this time Colin and I started dating. We went on our first date April 10, 2013. Then he came to visit me in Logan on April 11, 2013. We went on our second date April 13, 2013. After that we were inseparable. It was like meeting my best friend half way through life. Everything just flowed and it felt right.
He had plans to go do summer sales and I knew I was going to work at DisneyWorld in the fall…Colin said goodbye the week before he was suppose to leave for summer sales. He said he was going to go to the temple with his mom over the weekend. After he had went to the temple he called me and told me, “I just don’t feel like I should go do summer sales. I am staying here for the summer.”
It was at that moment I knew we were going to get married! And I was terrified and thrilled at the same time! My whole life I had wondered what the person I was suppose to marry was doing. I always wondered when I would meet them, how I would meet them, and the moment I knew I would marry them. This was that moment.
We got married that August and have been married for 4 years. It has been the BEST 4 years. Colin is my best friend. He is so selfless. I have never met anyone kinder or more willing to serve others. I am completely in love with him and I want to spoil him and give him the world, because he completely changed mine for the better.
Happy Birthday handsome! You are so wonderful! Thank you for being mine.
I can’t wait to spoil you rotten!
I also realized I never shared the cake I made Colin for his birthday last year on the blog. So here it is in all of its glory! At the time I got obsessed with Whipped Cake Co and no ordinary cake would do. Of course I have never made a birthday cake like this before. Let alone an ordinary birthday cake. So it took me a whole afternoon in the kitchen and one huge mess later.
I went through two batches of cakes because I ruined the first one. It was the longest process ever, but I learned a lot and had so much fun making it. I wanted it to be perfect for Colin! The outside looks chocolatey, but the inside is actually funfetti!
This is probably the one and only cake I will make! But luckily it turned out pretty good for my first and only.
xo,
Sara
