With Thanksgiving only a couple days away I wanted to share my favorite pie recipe! It is such an easy pie to make that is absolutely delicious and not very common. It is the perfect pie if you need any last minute dessert ideas!
My mom got the recipe a couple years ago and it has been a family favorite ever since. She told me she had a piece of pear pie for me! I didn’t even know there was such a thing as pear pie, but it is by far my favorite pie out there! We made it for Thanksgiving a couple years ago and it went fast!
Before we get started you will need to make sure you have all the necessary ingredients. It is a pretty short list. I was surprised by the ingredients! They aren’t anything special, but they make a great pie. All these ingredients are for 1 pie. If you are wanted to make 2 I would either recommend doubling it, or making 2 separate batches. I usually make 2 at a time, and do 2 separate batches of ingredients to make sure each pie is getting exactly the amount they should.
INGREDIENTS (for 1 pie):
– 3-5 pears
– 1 cup of sugar
– 1/4 cup of flour
– 1/4 cup of butter
– 2 eggs
– 1 tsp of vanilla
– 1-2 pre made crusts
First we will want to preheat our ovens to Bake at 350.
Starting out you will want about 3-5 pears. I usually buy the pears and let them sit for a few days. I like them ripe, or a little overly ripe before I put them in my pie. Once they are ripened to your satisfaction put 3-5 pears that are cored, peeled, and sliced into an uncooked pie crust.
It says 3-5 because you just want to make sure the pie tin/crust is filled with pears, but not have it piling over the top.
Next, mix the following ingredients in a bowl and mix until creamy.
– 1 cup of sugar
– 1/4 cup of flour
– 1/4 cup of butter (softened)
– 2 eggs
– 1 tsp of vanilla
After it is creamy, you want to pour that mixture into the crust. Do not mix it will the pears. Just let it sit on top and seep into the pie.
You will want to place the pie in the oven and Bake @ 350 for 60 minutes.
You want your pie to look golden on top. My pie got cooked for a little too long, but it tasted absolutely delicious! I added a little powdered sugar on top for garnish, but you can also leave it.
A fun way to spruce up your pie is by buying an extra pre made pie crust and adding parts of it to the top. You don’t want to completely cover the top of the pie, but you can make it your own.
In the past I have put hearts all along the outside for the crust, or making a lattice pie crust top.
If you are wanting to make your own pie crust instead of buying a pre-made one, here is my favorite pie crust recipe:
Pie Crust: (makes 2 crusts)
– 2 1/2 cups of flour
– 1 tsp of salt
– 1 cup butter flavor crisco
– 1 egg
– 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
– 1/2 cup of cold water
Mix ingredients until well blended. Then roll out until satisfied.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and get to eat all the wonderful food and yummy desserts! If you make this pie for Thanksgiving, or for any occasion, I would love to know what you think! Happy baking!

Sara
